I started drawing when I was very young as a way to escape the real world. I also did a ton of reading. The real world to me was just not a good place so I felt better with my head stuck in my sketchpad with my fine point ink pens in hand. I drew and drew and drew. I have a few of my old drawings from when I was growing up. I didn't take any official classes or go to art school (although I dreamt of going to MassArt which was just a short bus ride away). Although, my Mom did take me with her to her costume design classes. Luckily, Mom's teacher let me sit in class with her and I was just a little kid. Mom had a long list of interesting art supplies and tools to buy to participate in her classes.
Anyway, in 2010 a friend gave me some paint he had lying around and said why don't you paint? Aren't you into art? So, I did. I fell in love with acrylic.
Since then, all I want to do is paint.
I feel so free with a paintbrush in my hand (and one in between my teeth). I love watching the paint move across the canvas although I don't plan or paint with a particular idea in mind. I just let go and do what my hand tells me. When I work on a canvas it is as if my painting paints itself. I have no idea what I am going to paint nor do I care.
I just want to be FREE. That is what I love about abstract art. It is so freeing.
